Darien, CT

Darien is a quiet hamlet, resting on the famed “Gold Coast” of Fairfield County, offering a wonderful community feel. With easy access off of Interstate 95, and under an hour commute by rail on the Metro North New Haven Line, Darien remains one of the most popular towns in Connecticut. Incorporated as a town in 1820, the first settlers actually date back as far as 1641. Darien is probably best known for its water communities such as the private Tokeneke section, Long Neck Point, Noroton Bay, Contentment Island, Salem Straights and various other small inhabited islands. Aside from the beach communities, there are beautiful neighborhoods throughout Darien, each with a feel and flavor of their own. Darien has a vibrant and active downtown, thanks in part to the welcome addition of many new shops and amazing restaurants.

Homes in Darien can range from vintage (some date back to the early 1700′s), pre-war including Victorians of every kind, Colonials, Federal, traditional New England Cape Cod style homes, Shingle Style and some post-war Colonials. Recently, many builders have found success tearing down some of the less worthy houses and rebuilding newer, more modern Colonials and Shingle Style homes. Lot sizes can range from less than a quarter of an acre to over 4 acres. Flanked by Stamford to the south, and Norwalk and New Canaan to the north and east, Darien offers the best of all worlds.

Darien has two town beaches; Weed Beach off of Nearwater Lane and Pear Tree Point Beach on Pear Tree Point Road. In addition to the the beach areas, Darien offers many public parks including Cherry Lawn Park, Woodland Park and Tilley Pond Park.

One of the main attractions for Darien residents are the schools. Consistently ranking top in the state, Darien offers a public school education to rival private schools. There are seven public schools in Darien and one private school, the Pear Tree Point School.

There are three private golf clubs in Darien; The Country Club of Darien, Wee Burn Country Club and Woodway Country Club. There are also two private swim or beach clubs; Middlesex Swim Club and Tokeneke Beach Club, as well as other membership clubs such as The Darien Boat Club, The Noroton Yacht Club and The Ox Ridge Hunt Club.

Darien sits on 14.8 square miles and has just under 20,000 residents. Click here for The Town of Darien’s website.
